The Children’s Choirs play an active role in the life of Canyon Creek Presbyterian Church. The Children’s Music program nurtures our children’s sense of joy, their spirit of worship, their understanding of the church, their knowledge of music, and offers opportunities to utilize their gifts. All children ages 4 years by September 1 through 5th grade are welcome and encouraged to participate in this active and vital program. No previous musical experience is needed or required – simply a joyful heart and a willingness to experience how we worship our Lord through the medium of music and sharing his Word through song.

Cherub Choir

The Cherub Choir includes children ages four (by September 1st) through Kindergarten. The children are introduced to music and the worship experience through singing, movement and instruments. The fundamentals of pitch and rhythm are introduced through a variety of music activities. New anthems, hymns, and Bible songs are taught by rote. This choir sings in worship services throughout the year, including Advent, Palm Sunday and Mother’s Day services. Rehearsals begin in September.

Sonshine Choir

The Sonshine Choir is for children in the 1st and 2nd grades. Through the study of anthems and hymns, these children are introduced to the printed page. Emphasis is given to reading music notations and to the development of good singing technique. Chime bars and Orff instruments (barred xylophones) are sometimes used as accompaniment. In addition to singing in worship services several times throughout the year, this choir also enjoys participating with the Covenant Choir in a Spring Musical. Rehearsals begin in September.

Covenant Choir

The Covenant Choir is for children in the 3rd through 5th grades. These children look forward to an exciting and rewarding year as they sing in worship, participate in special programs within the church and community, and participate with the Sonshine Choir in the Spring Musical. The fundamentals of phrasing, dynamics, form and tone are taught through numerous anthems and hymns. Musicianship is developed in this choir and emphasis is placed on reading the music, allowing the children to experience more challenging anthems, two-part music, descants and rounds. Rehearsals begin in September after a kick-off pool party in August.

Following rehearsal on Sundays, our 4th and 5th graders have the opportunity to participate in CROSSROADS!. This activity begins with dinner and then, let the games begin! This program allows children an opportunity to grow closer to one another as they grow closer in their personal relationship with Christ.

Celebration Chimes
The Youth Handbell and Chime Ensembles (Jubilation Ringers and Celebration Chimes) are open to all 4th-12 graders and begin rehearsals in September. Both ensembles rehearse from 5:00-6:00 p.m. in the Handbell Room, M352 and the adult choir room. Previous musical experience is not required but participation in the Covenant, Middle School or Senior High choirs is strongly encouraged and helpful for becoming acquainted with the music as well as fellow ringers. Participants are placed in the group according to their bell ringing experience. See Youth Choir for more information on this opportunity.
