"Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things unseen. Indeed by faith our ancestors received approval. By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was made from things that are not visible."
-Hebrews 11:1-3
I love looking at maps! My wife will tell you, if a map lands in front of me it may be hours before I make a sound. I've always been intrigued by where things are and how you get from one place to another. As the years go by, I love seeing what new things pop up on maps that weren't there in previous years.
My map gazing hobby has grown with the advancement of technology. On Google.com, you can download a program called Google Earth. Google Earth is no ordinary map. This program, in conjunction with NASA, has taken satellite photographs of every inch of this Earth. What is amazing about the photography is that you can zoom far out and see whole continents and then you can zoom so far in that you can almost identify your own car! You can see an aerial picture of the Metroplex, and in seconds, type in another place on the other side of the world and see it. Zoom in and see your neighborhood; zoom out and see the Great Wall of China. It's an amazing program!
The only downside to Google Earth is that the photos aren't very up-to-date. When I searched for CCPC's building, it wasn't there. So when the photograph was taken of this area, the church wasn't built, our corner Starbucks wasn't there, and North Star Road wasn't even connected from Renner Road to Plano Parkway... there was just land.
As I gazed at this land -- where nothing was built -- it got me thinking about how far this congregation has come since the first Service of Worship was celebrated here on North Star Road four years ago. God has created people of great faith at CCPC... people willing to take great risks. From a new person's perspective, I'm amazed at what God has done and I am so excited about what God still has in store. As we continue to grow and to be led by God, let it be our faith in God that gives us hope and assures us of the things that God still has us to do!
Holy God, we give you thanks for the faith You have given us.
Strengthen us to keep living with hope and show us what
You will have us do for the glory of Your kingdom.
In Christ's Name, we pray.
Amen!
