"Carry each other's burdens,
and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ."
Galatians 6:2
I was recently reminded that when the times get tough, I have a tendency to hold on to my "burdens" even tighter. I feel that I should be strong enough to get through the struggle alone-that I'm weak if I have to ask for help. Maybe it's also because I feel if I keep holding on that I can stay in control, a characteristic that so many of us tend to encompass. But my good friend and pastor, Don, told me to let go and let others help. Though that's not easy for any of us when we so badly want to be in control and not shirk our responsibilities, it is what God calls us as Christian to do.
Paul told the Galatians to carry each other's burdens and in that way show Christ's love. There are times when we have to let go and allow others to carry us through difficult times. God intended for us to be in community with one another so that we would not feel alone in our time of need. I, for one, am so grateful to have a loving Christian family at CCPC that is willing to carry my burden when it becomes too heavy for me to endure on my own. Having a community of faith walking with you in times of joy and sorrow is priceless! Having others hold you up in prayer and walk beside you in times of need alleviates the feeling of weariness during difficult times. The love of Christ is evident in the congregation here at CCPC! Praise God for His steadfast love that endures forever-and for the tender loving care that is so evident in the many friends I have in my family of faith.
Heavenly Father, Thank you for the community of believers here at Canyon Creek Presbyterian Church that help one another by carrying the burdens of those in need when the heaviness may be too much to endure. Through your love and grace may we be examples of Christ's love to those in need. Amen.
Judy Howle Director of Middle School Ministry And loving daughter of Bill Preston-may he rest in peace!
