"Since you excel in so many ways – you have so much faith, such enthusiasm, and such love for us – now I want you to excel also in this gracious ministry of giving."

II Corinthians 8:7

COVENANT WITH GOD

We believe that Christian stewardship is a personal covenant between the individual and God. In this covenant, we acknowledge that:

God owns everything, and
all we have is a gift from God to use for His glory.

Christian stewardship is more than returning a portion of our gifts to God. It is about faith and trust in God. God wants us to commit our whole lives to His son Jesus Christ. When we make this commitment to Christ, our lives are transformed and our faith deepens. God, of course, is always fulfilling his part anyway, so the question is, are we lining up, are we fulfilling the covenant?

"Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work."
II Corinthians 9:6-8

FAITH BASED GIVING

At CCPC, we see our financial gifts as a spiritual opportunity for personal growth through a Faith Commitment we make with God – not with CCPC. A Faith Commitment emphasizes three important spiritual principles.

1. First, it starts with the giving of one’s self totally to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

2. Secondly, it recognizes the tithe as the Biblical norm for giving.

3. Thirdly, our individual Faith Commitment, made in response to God’s grace, is a covenant between God and us. It is a covenant made out of an attitude of joy and gratitude and not out of a sense of duty or guilt.

TITHING

The word tithe means tenth and refers to the first ten percent of all our income. The Bible tells us that the tithe belongs to God and is to be immediately set aside for Him and is to be brought to the storehouse. Today, that storehouse is the local church, and God wants our tithes to go to the local church for the same reason He wanted them to go to the temple’s storehouse, "that there may be food in my house". The church’s job is to meet the needs of people. You can think of the local church as being a hospital for spiritually sick people where Jesus Christ is the doctor. But just as a hospital cannot heal the physically sick without funds, the church cannot heal the spiritually sick without funds. When we tithe, we give to others through the church.

We also worship God with our money when we tithe. By giving God the first ten percent of our income, we are showing Him that He is more important than the cable company, the mortgage company…even the IRS. We are saying that we believe him when he promises to provide for us and that he will bless our lives through our giving. As faithful Christians, tithing should be as natural as bowing our heads during prayer.

THE CHURCH BUDGET – STEPPING OUT IN FAITH

For many people, a church’s annual budgeting process is either a mystery hidden in the dark recesses of a church office or a dry exercise in putting numbers together. At CCPC, we view the budgeting process as an exciting opportunity to build our faith and understand God’s calling both individually and as a community of believers.

As in any budget, there are two sides: the expense side – where we use our resources, and the income side – what resources we have available. Think of the expense side as "Ministry Investment" and the income side as "Faith Commitment." These definitions arise from an exciting change we made in the way CCPC approaches the integration of our faith and our money. In essence, the church budget transfers our individual Faith Commitments into investments in ministry.
