A number of children in our congregation are dealing with many challenges from neurologic to psychiatric issues. We want them to know and feel the love of God and to be at home in Canyon Creek Presbyterian Church. To this end, we ask parents to work with their child’s Sunday School teachers and superintendents to educate us on the ways that your child learns best. Alice Redding, a Learning Therapist and CCPC member, is available to help parents and teachers work together for the best interest of your child. Arrangements can be made through the Director of Children’s Ministries at 972-238-8103, or email mhodge@canyoncreekpres.org.

PARENTING CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

Recognizing that parenting children with special needs is a challenge, a support group of Parents with Special Needs Children meets once a month to encourage one another, share concerns, receive information and pray for each other. The group meets on the second Wednesday of each month (except July and December) from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm. Topics of past meetings include neuro feedback, sensory integration therapy, organizational skills and diet/foods. For more information or to place your name on the mailing list, contact Jane Drake at jmdrake@flash.net.

HOW DIFFICULT CAN THIS BE?

This 70-minute video is about experiencing life the way a learning disabled student does. The purpose of the video is to sensitize teachers, parents, and friends of learning disabled students to the world of the LD student and to educate them towards different modes of interaction with the students. It is required viewing by all CCPC Sunday Morning JAM teachers and recommended for all parents. The video may be borrowed from the Children's Ministries office.
