CHRISTIAN EDUCATION STEWARDSHIP COUNCIL
Learning to
serve, serving to learn
Have you ever wondered where the
Sunday Morning Christian Education offering goes? Who it helps or what it buys? The
answers to these questions are provided by the Christian Education (CE) Stewardship
Council.
The council is composed of interested
students from Grades 1-12 and is led by an adult volunteer with
parent helpers. Contact Mary Hodge to volunteer (mhodge@canyoncreekpres.org).
The students meet several times during the year and determine
where the CE offering is to be invested in mission.
Past recipients include Kosovo refugees, Church of Mercy in Cambodia,
Interfaith Housing Coalition in Dallas, Presbyterian Childrens
Home in Duncanville, famine relief in the Sudan, Family Outreach
of Richardson/Plano, Washington Street Mission and Presbyterian
Disaster Assistance.
The vision of the council is to
intertwine service and learning until each participant naturally
expresses Christian love in thought, word and deed to the glory
of God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The primary objectives
include the following:
-
To strengthen the understanding of stewardship
among our children and youth in order to raise their commitment
to regular giving.
-
To expand their knowledge of mission so their
passion for helping others will increase.
-
To model the Sessions difficult prioritizing
and decision making process helping students learn to serve
responsibly.
-
To make the theology of stewardship and mission
concrete, tangible and natural.
The CE Stewardship Council
works in conjunction with Mission Outreach to provide hands-on
mission experiences for families.
MISSION
OUTREACH
The purpose of Mission Outreach
is to provide hands-on activities in which persons of all ages,
especially families, can participate. These activities are conducted
with the intention of making Christs love known to others
through good works. Mission Outreach is a ministry of the CCPC
Mission Committee and coordinates activities with other CCPC groups,
such as the CE Stewardship Council.
The objectives of these mission
activities include the following:
- To help those in need by collecting food,
clothing, and other items.
- To reach out to those in need through direct
contact activities (for example, delivering school backpacks
to girls at the Presbyterian Childrens Home in Duncanville).
- To develop a stronger bond of community
between church members and families through fellowship activities
including potluck dinners, mission trips, etc.
- To foster a lifetime commitment to Jesus
Christ and His service.
The goals of Mission Outreach are
as follows:
- To provide mission opportunities at the
local, national and international level.
- To choose the majority of these mission
activities from organizations already supported by CCPC.
- To provide outreach opportunities for all
ages.

ALL
SAINTS CELEBRATION
Families helped us as we put the "hallows"
(holy) back into Halloween! Parents, brought their children in their
Halloween costumes to the church at the
designated time on Sunday afternoon, October 30, 2005, and heard
about the origin of Halloween and All Saints Day. Then they cruised
with them through the building to enjoy carnival games such as
"Saint Peters Pier," "David and Goliath,"
and "Noahs Ark."
ADVENT OPPORTUNITIES TO GIVE
The word "Advent" means "coming" and is a season of the Church Year when we prepare for the celebration of the First Coming of Jesus. In recognition and appreciation for all that God has given us in giving Himself, many families will choose to use this time to give to others. Listed below is a small sample of opportunities you may want to consider. Please contact Steve Budde, Elder Moderator of the Mission Committee for details or for more ideas.

SHROVE TUESDAY PANCAKE SUPPER
February 28, 2006
Bring your friends and neighbors to the annual all-church party where a supper of pancakes, syrup and sausages are served with flair by your Church Staff! Children may make Mardi-Gras style masks and may even see a clown or two! Watch for details in February.
The name Shrove Tuesday comes from the custom of ringning the "shriving bell" to summon the people to church to be "shriven," that is, to confess their sins at the beginning of Lent. At that time, certain foods were given up for the duration of Lent. Those foods included eggs, milk, meat, and rich buttery dishes. On Shrove Tuesday, families ate up all the rich foods left in their pantries. One way to do that was by making pancakes!
CHURCH
DECORATING PARTY
and EASTER EGG HUNT

Each year on the Saturday before
Easter, children from infants through second grade along with
their parents or grandparents gather at church to hear the Easter
Story, make decorations for the church, and hunt Easter eggs.
This annual tradition is a delightful way to celebrate the Risen
Christ! Be looking for more details in the Spring! Upper elementary
and middle school students may volunteer to help. Adults are needed, too. Call Mary Hodge
at 972-238-8103 ext. 309 or email mhodge@canyonreekpres.org.
CREATED
BY GOD
February 2-4, 2006
The Church as the household of
God is called to educate all people for living life responsibly
in all circumstances. Created By God is a seminar about human
sexuality for 5th and 6th grade students and their parents. This
course will help children see sexuality as a natural and healthy
part of Gods plan for their lives, and help parents gain
confidence for and understanding of their role as primary educator
and role model for their children. One parent must attend the
parent(s) only orientation session, usually on a Thursday evening.
Student sessions are usually held on Friday evening and end on
Saturday at 3:00 pm. Registration forms will go out in December.
"We realize we live in
a society that influences our decisions and values.
Our choice is not whether we will be educated about our sexuality,
but in what environment that education will take place."
-North Texas Annual Conference
on Human Sexuality
