Live Wires: Grades 6-8
PYC: Grades 9-12

In order to know Christ and to make Christ known in our lives, fellowship, and community, the young people and their adult leaders of Canyon Creek Presbyterian Church strive to:

  • Call young people to be disciples of Jesus Christ.
  • Respond to the needs and interests of young people.
  • Work together in partnership, young people and adults.
  • Be connected to the whole church, community and world.
  • Be inclusive of all young people, while modeling standards of
    discipleship.
  • Minister to young people in the context of their families.

Mission TripYouth ministry at Canyon Creek Presbyterian Church is interwoven into the whole life of the church. Young people are given opportunities to lead in worship throughout the year. They are trained in an understanding of the elements of Reformed worship and challenged to responsibly reflect these elements through their leadership. Young people can serve on congregational committees, sharing their insights and visions for the church in these leadership roles.

Examples of such opportunities include:

  • Our annual Mission Trip. In 2005 we took 43 Senior High youth and 12 adults to Enid, OK to help repair and restore homes.
  • Our Mo-Ranch Junior High Jubilee Retreat. This year 28 youth and 5 adults participated.
  • Our Sunday Morning classes year round.
  • Our Sunday evening Youth Fellowship Groups, PYC and the all new Live Wires!

And much, much, more! Join us as we seek to know Christ and to make Christ known! To see Youth Calendars of Events click on the Live Wires or PYC links above.

Sixth Grade - J-Rock
(Sundays 9:35 am to 10:35 am, Room M205)
Our sixth graders us Group Publishing’s Hands On Bible Curriculum. This curriculum focuses on life application of the biblical teachings.

Seventh Grade - Boulders
(Sundays 9:35 am to 10:35 am, Room M206)
The Seventh Grade year is focused on the Mustard Seed curriculum that walks them through the Bible. We provide an overview of the Bible story starting with humankind’s first interactions with our creator through the fulfillment of that relationship in Christ Jesus.

Eighth Grade - Cornerstone
(Sundays 9:35 am to 10:35 am, Room M204)
The Eighth Grade year moves us beyond an overview, to look more in depth at the major themes of our faith. We will be using new materials this year as we discover what it means to be called to be Christ’s body in the world.

Ninth Grade - Bedrock
(Sundays 9:35 am to 10:35 am, Room M202)
Confirmation Class: Our primary resource for this class is a curriculum entitled Questions and Beliefs, by the Logos Program Associates. The other element of this class comes through the relationship between the Confirmand and their adult Mentor. We use a resource entitled Can We Talk, as a framework for this time of discussion one Sunday a month. This is not a membership class as much as an opportunity for young people to take ownership of their beliefs and begin to understand what it means to be a member of a faith community. Each August, October, and March, our Ninth Grade Confirmation Class will participate in retreats,

Senior High - The Edge
(Sundays 9:35 am to 10:35 am, Rooms M201-M203)
Our Senior High class includes all tenth through twelfth grade students. At this point, we build on the foundation laid in the earlier grades as we focus on integrating faith into life. Curriculum resources include Group Publishing, PCUSA, CRC, Logos, and others in the Reformed tradition. We maintain an atmosphere of honest dialog and creative faith exploration, while upholding faith principles.

Presbyterian Events
Beyond these activities, our young people and their leaders regularly attend events and retreats with other area Presbyterian youth groups. Also, we offer opportunities for our young people to attend Presbytery sponsored "Youthquake" retreats in the fall and spring, Senior High Youth Connection at Austin College in January, and attend special summer fellowship gatherings.

Parent’s Night Out
Starting in November, and running through April, the youth provide childcare for children birth through 5th grade at the church primarily on Friday nights once a month. Money donated by parents who bring their children goes to help with the cost of sending our young people on their summer Mission Trip. On Friday nights, the times for this event are 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm but the youth are expected to get there at 5:30 pm for setup/fellowship dinner.

Sunday School Teachers
Confirmed youth may volunteer to teach children's Sunday School classes.

Vacation Bible School
Vacation Bible School is an opportunity for youth to serve the church. Youth work with adults leading our children in this very well attended event.

Church Decorating Party and Easter Egg Hunt
Youth volunteer to help with this annual Holy Saturday event sponsored by Children's Ministries for toddlers through 2nd grade.

At CCPC we believe strongly that youth ministry happens within the context of families. Connecting parents to other parents, to youth, to the church, and ultimately to Christ is our goal. In order to help with this goal, we have a Parents of Teens group that meets regularly.
