Associate Pastor Ellen Dittman

Pastor Ellen Dittman was born and raised in the Dallas area, graduating Lake Highlands High School and later Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering.  She had an exciting 20 year career as a chemical engineer in the areas of explosives and pyrotechnics, sour gas, environmental engineering and finally, plant design.  Why in the world, one might ask, would a chemical engineer with such a fun career want to become a pastor??  Good question!

Early on, Ellen felt called to the ministry and has been an intentional disciple since her Baptist grandmother taught her to memorize John 3:16 in preschool.  With some of us, it just takes God a long time.  Perhaps it was the amount of work to be done in formation...

Through high school, Ellen was an active member of Lake Park Cumberland Presbyterian Church.  In 2001, Ellen, her husband Tom and their two wonderful boys, Andrew and Matthew, moved to Dallas from Baton Rouge to run her parents' pool service company--something she said she would never do!  In 2005, she served Canyon Creek as interim Youth Minister 2 years, then attended Perkins School of Theology, graduating with a Master of Divinity in 2012, with awards in preaching and academics.

In seminary, Ellen was surprised to find that she is a chaplain at heart.  Ordained as a PCUSA Pastor in 2013, she continued her chaplaincy at Parkland, as well as serving as solo pastor of Southminster Presbyterian Chruch, Garland.  She has served on staff at Cayon Creek since 2013, first as a Parish Associate for Pastoral Care, and then as Associate Pastor in 2015.  She now serves the church in Pastoral Care (Deacons) and Connections Ministry (Welcoming and Belonging).

Ellen loves her family, including daughters-in-law Ashley and Kelly, and grandchildren John, James and Catherine, her German Shepherd, Ladybug, and good conversation with friends and parishioners.  Her hobbies are reading, writing poetry, playing flute and working out. Ellen is blessed to serve Christ's body, CCPC, and is excited about where God is leading us!
